Busy day on my birthday

We woke up to sunny skies.  Nice to see sun and blue.  The days are most often cloudy with the sun breaking through  occasionally.  But even when it is windy--often-- it is not uncomfortable.  The heavy sweatshirt I purchased in St. John's and the sweater Les bought, have been put to use often.  So the saying here: there is no bad weather, only bad clothes.  We did see two women dressed for Independence Day.

We drove back through the town and out to the point, Cape Bonavista, to the lighthouse.

This lighthouse also has the keeper's house built around the circular light house.  This family was not as isolated as some, as the town of Bonavista was not too far.  Quite a few tourists here today.  Les decided to ride his bike the three miles or so into the town. He ended up doing the route twice.   It was the least hilly we had seen in a while.   Another iceberg in the distance.

Left the lighthouse and drove back to town to find Neil's Yard, a place for lunch.  It is rated #1 on Tripadvisor.  I am aware that everywhere we go, the Tripadvisor sticker is prominent on the window.  This goes for all tourist sites as well as restaurants.  We get directions and start winding through the streets of Bonavista.   Neil's is a tiny wooden building, right at the waterfront.  It has five tables.

It is a tea house and creperie.  I had the goat cheese with walnuts and cranberries; Les had the ham and cheese.

Shared a dessert crepe.  Bitter orange marmalade and dark chocolate.  Ice cream and almonds, of course.

We then drove out to Elliston to see the puffin colony.

Get in the mood.

After parking along a roadside, a walk of about seven minutes, over the cliffs, brings you to the view of the puffins

They are on this rock.  It is not possible to see them through a photograph.
Elliston also claims to be the root cellar capital of the world.
Many are still in use.

Dinner that night was at Skippers.  The fisherman's platter seemed to be the thing to choose.  And it came with cod tongues.  The picture below shows the fork in the cod tongue.

Tastes like chicken!  Actually it is soft and a bit chewy.  I will not be bringing home a bag of frozen.

The day was not over yet.  It's my birthday!
Tickets for Abbey Road at the local restored theater that brings in music every week.  All Beatles, so I least I knew the words.  Lots of fun, loud and boisterous.

It was only five minutes of a drive back to the campground, but all was quiet  at 11:30 and I think we woke our neighbors.

One of our neighbors had come in in this little rig.  A motorcycle pulling this trailer and it opened up to a tent.  Saw them plugging in a little heater.  Good idea.

Third night in  Bonavista.
