Last day in Twillingate

We cannot seem to get anything but a bad spell of whethur.  Cloudy again, mid-50s, but not uncomfortable.  We needed to get a bit more Quidi Vidi beer, but the store was out of 1892.  So it had to be a six-pack of Iceberg.  One of the singing group, Split Peas, had mentioned during the show, that she works and the Tickle Cove Mercantile.  And that is where we were shopping.  So we met Ada and talked to her a bit about the show and how much we liked it.  Turns out her daughter lives in North Carolina.  Why, when we say we live in South Carolina, do people tell us about their ties to North Carolina?

Next door, we noticed this tea room.

With this cute sign......

And the idea of pea soup for lunch, we had to make this our lunch stop.

But we decided that first we would go to Dave's Prime Berth.  Now a prime berth is the best fishing spot.

This sign greeted us.  The complex is an old fishing complex, with all the buildings that would have been used by a family.  But it also had exhibits and we learned about trapping fish.

We met Bill, who played the Ugly Stick and entertained us with US military songs.

The Prime Berth has a whale skeleton.  This whale was beached in the area.  Dave got it.  It took three years to get it down to a skeleton.

All of these buildings were used by the family to clean and preserve the fish.

We decided to stop at a hardware store/lumber yard to buy a couple of blocks of wood to help level the rv when needed.  They didn't have what we needed, but the clerk took us out back to the scrap heap and said take whatever you want.  We found a board, but it was too long.  While looking for a shorter piece, the clerk asked one of the workmen to cut it for us. We expected a power saw, but he cut it by hand. They would not take any money  "we were throwing it away anyway."  We did buy something at the store though
Stopped at the fish market on the way back to the campground and we cooked some crab legs again.

Tonight we went to a local motel, the Anchor Inn for a show called Newfoundlander 101.  A few young men ( comedians?) taught us local expressions, geography and such.  There  was audience participation and Les played the ugly stick.

He won an award.

They also did a ceremony where you become an honorary Newfoundlander and part of it is kissing a cod.

A fun time was had by all.
